Look at your gasoline bill -

you NEED TO SAVE MONEY ON GROCERIES!

Time to say it as it is . . . if we don't pull up the boot straps and work to stay within our budget, there are consequences around the corner!

When I manually stopped the gas pump at $100 while filling up the Suburban, that is when it hit me. . .  We can't ignore the pain of the prices at the pump.

The cost of our personal fuel (not to mention what it is costing Ross to run Dependable Dutchman Plumbing) has increased around $80 per month.  Where does the extra money come from?  We can't just expect it to balance out and magically arrive!  We need to find it somewhere else in our budget.  For many, that somewhere else is your grocery spending!!  With the weekly Practical Saver list, you can easily trim $50 per week of your grocery bill.  In most cases you can trim $300+ per month!  Don't ignore rising expenses - beat the budget monsters at their game and save at the store!

Things to look for this week:

• If you have a Sprout's near you, they have an amazing price on boneless pork chops!
• Fry's continues the Daytona 500 sale.  It is a little different in that you get $3 instant savings as well as $2 coupon printing at register.  I like the cheap Grand's biscuits and BBQ sauce.
• Potatoes are finally on sale again.  By the way, if anyone has a good method to rehydrate potatoes, let me know.  So far I have only had success in creating really rubbery potatoes from our dehydrated ones!
• Cheese is okay at $1.50 per 8 oz.  (It has been awhile since we have had $1 per 8 oz!)
• Ham or Turkey lunchmeat is on sale Friday only

You may have noticed the name change in the CVS & Walgreen's Mega savings list.  Becky, of Becky's Bargains, blew us away for years with her magic at CVS and Walgreen's.  Time didn't permit Becky to continue the list so she handed over the baton to Maddie.  I can't thank Becky enough for the amazing job she did and the TON of money and time she saved us over the years!  Maddie is already amazing me with her tricks - I love the way she saves!!  Thanks Becky & Maddie!!

Biscuits are still on sale - so I am keeping the recipes up from last week.  You can also use the biscuits for buns for sandwiches or a side for the pork chops that are on sale.

Meal suggestions:

• Mashed potatoes and baked pork chops
• Egg McMuffins using the biscuits, eggs, and ham that are on sale
• BBQ Chicken leg quarters
• Dinner salad (lettuce, eggs, cheese, ham all on sale)

Recipes for Grand's Biscuits

Bubble Pizza

2 packages tube biscuits   
Mozzarella Cheese
1 jar spaghetti sauce   
Optional:  Onions and Green Peppers
Optional Meat Toppings:  
Pepperoni, Hamburger, Sausage

Grease 9 x 13 pan, tear biscuits in quarters, and pour sauce, cheese, and meat over biscuits.  Can add optional onion and peppers.  Bake at 350 for approximately 30 minutes until cheese is brown.  Need to check to make sure biscuits in center are not gooey.    


Chicken Biscuit Casserole

1 can buttermilk biscuits   
1 cup milk
1 can chicken, tuna, or canned turkey (drained)   
1 cup shredded cheese
2T minced onion
1 can cream of chicken soup

Arrange biscuits on ungreased 9x13 pan combine all other ingredients and pour over top of unbaked biscuits and bake at 400° for 25 to 30 minutes.  Biscuits will rise to top and brown.

Cowboy Biscuits

2 Cans Tube Biscuits (8 - 10 per tube)
¼ cup Brown Sugar
½ cup margarine
Cinnamon

Melt the butter in bottom of pie plate.  Mix in brown sugar and cinnamon.  Swirl biscuit around in mixture to coat both sides of biscuit, overlap biscuits in circle in pie plate, and bake at 400° until done (~20-25 minutes).
