About Kara

I was born and raised in Iowa, one of the true heartlands of America.  My husband, Ross, also grew up inrounded.jpg Iowa and we share the wonderful midwestern values and practical approach to life.  We now call scenic Prescott Valley, Arizona home.  It is here we tend to our garden, and with luck and patience we grow wonderful vegetables, such as green beans, cucumbers, and tomatoes. We also have a wonderful “garden” in our three children, two boys, and at long last, a girl.  I am blessed to have a husband who not only loves to play with the kids, but who is at heart, a great big kid himself. It is an incredible joy to have a loving husband, father, and friend!

After acquiring my degree in finance at Arizona State, I have been fortunate to continue working in the financial field as at ‘Work at Home Mom’.   As my financial work grew into seminars and workshops on financial management, I suddenly realized I was a teacher -- something I never really thought I would be!  When you are teaching something you love, however, it isn’t really teaching. It is all about sharing information.

The most important lesson in all of this, for me, is to maintain balance in one’s life.  It is not enough to just save money. We need to do the most with what God has given us, and sacrifice to make the most out of what we have to spend.  For my family, and myself, we have made a deep commitment to managing money and enjoying life.  With the money we save, we spend as much time as we can camping, riding our horses, and taking family vacations.  This time we spend together is priceless - and the ultimate reward for the practical way of life we have chosen.  It is important to remember that while you are pinching pennies, you cannot pinch life out of your hands.  I think that is a critical message I want share with people. Saving money means, you are giving back to yourself, giving to people, and doing what you love.

In the end, this average wife and mother of three hopes to teach others that what they have is exactly what they need—and help them make the most of it!
